The LXXVII Annual Meeting of the SEN kicks off with broad representation from CIEN
The Center for Research on Neurological Diseases (CIEN) participates starting today in the LXXVII Annual Meeting of the Spanish Society of Neurology (SEN), held from November 18 to 22, 2025, in Seville. CIEN researchers will present scientific works and contribute to various oral sessions, poster presentations, and panel discussions.
CIEN’s presence at this edition, which gathers the country’s leading neurology specialists, reinforces its role as a reference center for research in neurodegeneration, biomarkers, neuropathology, and cognitive aging.
Below are the interventions by our researchers:
November 18, 2025
15:30-15:38
Neuropathological Evaluation of the Boston Criteria Version 2.0 for Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy in Alzheimer’s Disease Dementia
Ricciardi M. et al.
Oral — Behavior and Dementias I (ID21798)
The study analyzes the diagnostic accuracy of the new Boston 2.0 criteria for cerebral amyloid angiopathy, applied to neuropathologically confirmed cases.
18:00-18:08
The Atrophy Pattern Associated with Hippocampal Sclerosis Extends Beyond the Medial Temporal Lobe
Grothe M. et al.
Oral — Behavior and Dementias II (ID22145)
The work shows that hippocampal sclerosis affects broader brain regions than previously thought, providing new insights into its progression.
18:10-18:18
Modulatory Effect of GFAP Levels on the Association Between Plasma p-Tau217 and Cognitive Decline
Valeriano-Lorenzo E. et al.
Oral — Behavior and Dementias II (ID22394)
The study evaluates how glial activity, measured through GFAP, influences the relationship between plasma tau biomarkers and cognitive decline.
18:40-18:48
Health Status as a Risk Factor for Cognitive Decline and Dementia
del Ser Quijano T. et al.
Oral — Behavior and Dementias II (ID22781)
General health status is identified as an independent predictor of cognitive decline, emphasizing the importance of global clinical indicators.
November 19, 2025
08:30 – 10:30
Panel 1: Impact of Multiple Pathologies in a Single Brain
Moderator: Pascual Sánchez-Juan
Presenter: Alberto Rábano – Co-pathologies in the CIEN Brain Tissue Bank Dementia Cohorts: Chance or Necessity?
Oral — Behavior and Dementias Study Group
The session examines how the simultaneous presence of multiple brain pathologies influences the clinical presentation, progression, and diagnosis of dementias. Pascual Sánchez-Juan moderates the discussion while Alberto Rábano presents results from the CIEN Brain Tissue Bank cohorts, evaluating the frequency and significance of these co-pathologies.
20:30- 21:30
Dream Recall is Associated with Blood Levels of p-Tau217, APOE-E4, and Future Cognitive Decline
Valentí-Soler M. et al.
Poster — Behavior and Dementias P3 (ID21935)
The study suggests that certain patterns of dream recall may reflect preclinical vulnerability to Alzheimer’s disease.
November 20, 2025 — Spanish Neuropathology Club
11:45–12:30
Encounters with Neuroscience: Advances in Biomarkers for Alzheimer’s and Other Neurodegenerative Diseases
Pascual Sánchez-Juan
Oral
The presentation reviews the latest advances in blood and neuroimaging biomarkers, and their application to early diagnosis and monitoring of neurodegenerative diseases.
12:10–12:18
Long-term Cognitive and Neurodegenerative Trajectories in Cognitively Healthy Individuals with Elevated Plasma p-Tau217 (Vallecas Project Cohort)
Silva J. et al.
Oral — Behavior and Dementias II (ID22616)
The results show how elevated plasma p-Tau217 levels in cognitively healthy individuals may anticipate subtle changes in cognition and brain structure over time.
15:30 – 15:45
Between Endocrine and Neurological: A Rare Disease Under the Microscope
López-Martínez MJ. et al.
Oral — Neuropathological Cases (ID130)
A complex neuropathological case is presented in which endocrine and neurological alterations converge, highlighting the diagnostic importance of clinicopathological correlation.
17:00- 17:15
Inclusion Types in LATE-NC and Hippocampal Sclerosis Progression
Rábano-Gutiérrez A. et al.
Oral — Neuropathology Research II (ID136)
The work explores neuropathological variants of LATE-NC and their relationship with different hippocampal sclerosis patterns.
17:15-17:30
The GADIR Project: Milestones and Procedures During Its First Development Stage
Rábano-Gutiérrez A. et al.
Oral — Neuropathology Research II (ID137)
The presentation highlights advances in the GADIR project, focused on standardizing procedures and creating an advanced infrastructure for neuropathological studies.
