Memorables Film Festival
VIII Memorables Film Festival 2026
The rules for the 8th Memorables Film Festival are now available, with a broader focus on neurodegenerative diseases
The 8th edition of the Memorables Film Festival is now underway, and the competition rules, organised by CIEN and the Reina Sofia Foundation, are now available. In this new edition, the festival is broadening its scope to include all neurodegenerative diseases, beyond Alzheimer’s, thereby reinforcing its commitment to raising social awareness. Entry is free and open to residents of Spain.
The festival maintains its aim of promoting the creation and dissemination of short films—whether fiction or documentary—focusing on neurodegeneration in all its dimensions: the impact on patients’ lives, the scientific, medical or social aspects, as well as its repercussions on families and society. The short films must be original, with a maximum duration of 13 minutes, and must have been made between 1 August 2025 and 30 September 2026. The registration deadline is 30 September 2026 at 23:59.
Following the success of the last edition, which broke participation records, the festival continues to grow and establish itself as a meeting point for science, memory and audiovisual creation. The jury will assess both the cinematic quality and the message, as well as the films’ ability to raise awareness of diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s or ALS.
The festival will award cash prizes: €2,000 for the best short film, €1,500 for second place and €750 for third place, as well as the Memorables statuette. The winning short film will be screened at the Almería International Film Festival (FICAL). Non-monetary prizes will also be awarded in categories such as best screenplay, soundtrack, cinematography, editing, actor, actress and special mentions from the jury.
In addition to the official competition, the Memorables Film Festival will include parallel activities such as screenings, discussions and meetings with experts and people involved in neurodegenerative diseases, reinforcing its educational and social dimension.
The awards ceremony will take place in Madrid in October 2026. The full terms and conditions are now available on our website.
