Extracellular vesicles in neuroscience: a focus on methodology and their applications in neurodegenerative disorders. III Edition
- Venue: Santander – Magdalena Peninsula
- Dates: 6–7 August 2026
In recent years, extracellular vesicles have become established as key mediators of cell-to-cell communication in the central nervous system. In addition, thanks to their ability to cross the blood–brain barrier, they can reach the periphery and serve as a valuable source of biomarkers in neurodegenerative diseases, contributing to diagnosis, prognosis, and the assessment of brain-targeted interventions.
The course aims to provide students, clinicians, academics, and researchers with up-to-date knowledge of extracellular vesicles in the central nervous system. It will also review the role of extracellular vesicles in neurodegenerative disorders, as well as their translational and clinical applications, while fostering interaction between researchers and clinicians to encourage collaboration.
The course will be structured around a series of core lectures delivered by leading experts in the field, ensuring academic rigour and in-depth coverage of the subject. In addition, a structured Q&A roundtable will be included to promote meaningful dialogue between lecturers and participants, supporting knowledge exchange, clarification of key concepts, and active learner engagement.
Among the invited speakers, Dr Aitana Sogorb-Esteve, Head of the Biomarkers / Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Platform at CIEN, will deliver a lecture entitled “Blood-Based Biomarkers for Frontotemporal Dementia Through Extracellular Vesicles”. She will also take part in the closing roundtable and Q&A session alongside the other faculty members.
