Dr. Aitana Sogorb Esteve joins CIEN to lead the Biomarkers, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Platform
The Center for Research in Neurological Diseases (CIEN) continues to strengthen its scientific strategy and commitment to excellence in research with the appointment of Dr. Aitana Sogorb Esteve as Head of the Biomarkers, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Laboratory Platform, as well as Principal Investigator of a research group at the Alzheimer Center Fundación Reina Sofía – CIEN.
Since joining CIEN, Dr. Sogorb Esteve has been leading a new phase of growth and consolidation of research lines focused on the development and validation of biomarkers for early diagnosis and treatment monitoring in dementias, a key area for progress toward more precise and personalized medicine.
Dr. Sogorb Esteve holds a degree in Biology from the University of Alicante (2013), a Master’s degree in Neuroscience from Miguel Hernández University of Elche (2014), and a PhD in Neuroscience with International Mention from the same university (2018). She completed her doctoral thesis at the Laboratory of Molecular Mechanisms of Alzheimer’s Disease at the Alicante Institute of Neurosciences, where she began her specialization in the study of biomarkers in neurodegenerative diseases. During this period, she undertook an international research stay at the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), one of the world’s leading centers for Alzheimer’s disease research.
After completing her PhD, she carried out her postdoctoral training at University College London (UCL), joining the UK Dementia Research Institute. In this international setting, her research focused on markers of microglial activation in Alzheimer’s disease, working in close collaboration between London, Leuven (Belgium), and Gothenburg (Sweden). In 2022, her scientific career was recognized with the award of the Race Against Dementia Fellowship, one of the most prestigious international fellowships in the field, sponsored by three-time Formula 1 World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart.
As Head of the Biomarkers Platform, Dr. Aitana Sogorb Esteve is actively contributing to strengthening translational research at CIEN by promoting new biochemical and genetic methodologies and fostering national and international collaboration.
At CIEN, we welcome this appointment, which represents a key step in reinforcing our scientific capabilities and advancing knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
