DEGESCO 2026 Meeting: scientific exchange and advances in dementia genetics
The DEGESCO 2026 Meeting (DEmentia GEnetics Spanish Consortium) was held yesterday at the Centro Alzheimer Fundación Reina Sofía-CIEN. DEGESCO is a national scientific-technical consortium dedicated to research in the genetics of dementias.
The meeting brought together researchers from the different groups that make up the consortium in a forum designed for scientific exchange and collaborative coordination. During the session, the most recent progress from ongoing projects was presented, covering different lines of research in Alzheimer’s disease genetics, genomic sequencing, and other neurodegenerative disorders such as frontotemporal dementia. As an example, the first session included updates from the SCAP-AD project, among other consortium initiatives.
The program also featured an invited lecture by Alfredo Ramírez (University of Cologne), who delivered a high-level scientific presentation. The meeting concluded with a collaborative working session focused on identifying synergies between projects, planning new scientific collaborations, and defining future directions within the consortium.
The meeting helped strengthen interaction among research teams, promote knowledge exchange, and consolidate scientific cooperation across centres.
Overall, the event highlighted the importance of networking and interdisciplinary collaboration as key elements to advance research into the genetic basis of dementias and Alzheimer’s disease.
