A prominent representation of the team from the Centro de Investigación de Enfermedades Neurológicas (CIEN) is participating in the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) 2025. This conference, one of the world’s leading forums in the field of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias research, will be held this year from July 26 to 29 in Toronto, Canada.

During the conference, researchers from CIEN’s Clinical and Neuroimaging Platforms will present ten scientific contributions, including poster presentations and one oral presentation, focused on key advances in plasma biomarkers, neuroimaging, and neuropathological findings in the context of cognitive decline and neurodegenerative diseases.

Among the most notable contributions is the oral presentation by Dr. J. Michel Grothe, titled “The MRI signature of LATE-NC-associated hippocampal sclerosis extends beyond the medial temporal lobe.”

The posters cover a wide range of topics, including:

  • Longitudinal changes in cognitively unimpaired individuals with elevated plasma ptau-217 levels
  • Comparisons between FDG-PET and MRI in the early detection of neurodegenerative changes
  • The role of glial biomarkers (GFAP) in cognitive decline
  • Neuropathological evaluation of the Boston Criteria v2.0 for cerebral amyloid angiopathy
  • The impact of dream recall on biomarkers and cognition

The contributions will be presented by Linda Zhang, Elizabeth Valeriano-Lorenzo, and Michel J. Grothe, highlighting the center’s multidisciplinary and international collaboration.

CIEN’s participation in AAIC 2025 reflects its commitment to cutting-edge, translational research and strengthens its presence on the international stage in the study of neurodegenerative diseases.
