CIEN presents the 8th edition of the Memorables Film Festival, a festival that brings together cinema, memory, and research
- The event, promoted by CIEN and the Reina Sofía Foundation, launches a new edition after consolidating itself as one of the leading cultural initiatives for raising awareness about Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases
- Following the success of the previous edition, which set a participation record, the festival expands its call for entries for the first time to include all neurodegenerative diseases
The Centro de Investigación de Enfermedades Neurológicas (CIEN) presented the 8th edition of the Memorables Film Festival in Madrid at an event held at the All in One CaixaBank space in Plaza de Colón. The gathering once again brought together representatives from the scientific, cultural, and audiovisual fields around a shared goal: to raise public awareness about Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases through cinema.
The presentation, hosted by actress and producer Eva Almaya, marked the beginning of a new edition of a festival that, since its inception, has established itself as a meeting point between science, memory, and audiovisual creation.
A festival that continues to grow
Throughout its first seven editions, the Memorables Film Festival has expanded both its reach and its ability to attract participants. Last year marked a new milestone, with 29 short films submitted—a record high for the festival—and 17 works selected for the final stage.
“The Memorables Film Festival shows that cinema can also be a tool for raising awareness, providing support, and promoting social outreach. Each edition allows us to bring the reality of neurodegenerative diseases closer to more people through a human, rigorous, and deeply empathetic perspective,” said María Ángeles Pérez, manager of CIEN, during the presentation.
From Alzheimer’s to a broader view of neurodegenerative diseases
As the main new feature of this eighth edition, the festival opens its call for entries for the first time to all neurodegenerative diseases, broadening its focus beyond Alzheimer’s and reinforcing its mission of social awareness.

A project made possible thanks to institutional collaboration and shared commitment
During the presentation, special thanks were given to CaixaBank for once again providing an emblematic venue for the event. The role of Siemens Healthineers was also highlighted as the festival’s official sponsor in recent editions and a key partner in its consolidation and growth.
The event also featured the participation of Don Quijote de la Memoria, a symbolic figure of the festival and guardian of the stories that deserve to be remembered, who marked the official opening of the 8th edition.
The 8th edition of the Memorables Film Festival will continue over the coming months, culminating in the grand awards ceremony, scheduled for October.
