CIEN Opens Its Doors During Madrid Science and Innovation Week 2026

The Reina Sofía Foundation Alzheimer’s Centre will host two free public events on 26 and 27 November, with advance registration required: an exploration of the connection between neuroscience and music, and an open day offering insights into research on neurodegenerative diseases.

CIEN (Center for Research on Neurological Diseases) is once again taking part in Madrid Science and Innovation Week with two activities open to the public.

Both events will take place at our headquarters at the Reina Sofía Foundation Alzheimer’s Centre in Vallecas, which has been home to CIEN since 2007. The centre brings together care for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and scientific research into neurodegenerative diseases under one roof.

Neurodialogues in the Key of G

Thursday, 26 November, 19:00–20:30. Auditorium, Reina Sofía Foundation Alzheimer’s Centre.

This event brings neuroscience and music together through a public talk and a live improvisational music performance. It offers an immersive exploration of research into how music influences attention, emotions and conscious experience. The activity is aimed at the general public.

The Brain Uncovered: Discover How We Research Neurodegenerative Diseases

Friday, 27 November, 16:15–18:30. Reina Sofía Foundation Alzheimer’s Centre.

This open day offers guided tours of CIEN’s research platforms: Clinical Research, Neuroimaging, Biomarkers, Neurophysiology and the Brain Bank. Specialists from each platform will explain their work and showcase the equipment and tools they use to study the brain and the diseases that affect it. Places are limited.
