Discussion and consensus: the start of the GADIR Project

The next GADIR Workshop, organised by the Center for Research on Neurological Diseases (CIEN) and co-funded by the Sociedad Española de Neurología (SEN), takes place today and tomorrow. This meeting will bring together experts in neuropathology with the central purpose of discussing and agreeing on the necessary procedures for the implementation of the GADIR Project, a key initiative in the neuropathological classification of neurodegenerative diseases.

The GADIR Project aims to unify neuropathological criteria and improve diagnostic accuracy through close collaboration between neurological tissue banks and specialised research groups.

Distinguished participants

The workshop will be attended by 12 of the 16 neurological tissue banks that are part of the GADIR Project, as well as members of the ACE Alzheimer Center team, an organisation that plays a crucial role in the project. In addition, several members of the Iberian Neuropathology Group will be present, reinforcing the collaborative network that supports the project.

Program

The workshop will include two days focused on technical discussions, practical sessions and key organisational aspects:

Thursday 27 March:

  • 16:15h: Institutional welcome by Mª Ángeles Pérez (CIEN Management) and Pascual Sánchez Juan (CIEN Scientific Directorate).
  • 16:30h: General presentation of the GADIR project, by Alberto Rábano (CIEN), in which the objectives and scope of the project will be explained.
  • 17:00h: Discussion on Ethical-legal aspects and logistics for the implementation of the project, led by Laura Saiz (CIEN).
  • 17:30h: Presentation on the Genetic study: samples and procedures, with Victoria Fernández (FACE) and Sonia Wagner (CIEN).
  • 18:30h: Review and update of neuropathological criteria, with brief presentations of key neuropathological protocols for various prevalent pathologies, by members of the GADIR consortium.

Friday 28th March:

  • 9:00h: Session on the REDCap Database and non-neuropathological data, presented by Laura Saiz (CIEN).
  • 10:00h: Practical workshop on Classification and reclassification of neuropathological cases, led by members of the GADIR consortium.
  • 12:30h: Debate on Organisational issues and committee management, with Alberto Rábano, Laura Saiz and Iván Burgueño (CIEN).
  • 13:30h: Farewell event.

Moving towards a key consensus

This workshop will be fundamental to establish the methodological and organisational bases of the GADIR Project. The discussion and consensus among participants will help to define the procedures that will guide the project and strengthen scientific collaboration between the main neurological tissue banks and neuropathology groups at the Iberian level.
